We do...again!

As part of my conversion to Catholicism, our priest wanted Peter and I to get married in the church. We had a civil ceremony the first time, but apparently this is not recognized by the church. I figured he would have the 2 of us in his office, go over our vows, and voila, we would be sinners no more. Nope. Father Larry is a bit of a traditionalist and wanted us to do the full Catholic mass ceremony. So that is what we did!! We had a small group attend. My best friend Suzie came from Indiana to reprise her role as matron of honor. My mom came up, and a few from Pete's family attended. It waa actually quite nice!

Here we are leaving for the church. What you can not see from this picture is that Vincent threw up all over the kitchen about 10 minute before this. I managed to throw his head over in time saving us all.

Having fun exchanging our vows:

We had a yummy banana cake from my favorite bakery, Icing on the Cake.

Cutting the cake. Check out Zach goofing off behind us!

Suzie has some pictures on her blog as well, go check it out!

Pete, Thanks for being such a great sport. I love you so much I would marry you again and again!!

Nothing gets by these boys...

Zach's thoughts on th realism of Star Wars

Zach: "You know what makes Star Wars so non logical?"

Me: "What Zach?"

Zach "How are they breathing out there in space? That is just non logical?

Since Vincent is out of school for the summer, he came to Gymboree with Christopher and I last week. I used to go with Vincent when he was a toddler.

Vincent: "So where is Gymbo the clown? Is he coming today?"

Me: "He is right there, " I said, pointing to the big stuffed clown in the corner.

Vincent: "No, the real Gymbo. When I was here, the real Gymbo came!"

Overheard at breakfast one morning, while the boys were watching The Wiggles:

Joey: "That dog and dinosaur are just people in costumes. Do you know how I can tell?"

Zach: "How Joey?"

Joey: "See how their mouth doesn't move? That's how." (anyone who has seen the show knows that the dog walks upright and is bigger then the people!)

What was I thinking??!!

We started our bathroom remodel yesterday. We are completely redoing the boys bathroom. We are also redoing the downstairs bathroom and laundry room because we had a triple flood in there a couple of weeks ago and the floor is warped. And since we have to replace the floor we might as well replace the sink and toilet. And the door that goes out the garage. And the bathroom door. And the laundry room cabinets.

Here is what the boys' bathroom looked like
Ugly, ugly, ugly...
See how there is only 1 sink?
Here is what the boys bathroom looks like now. Actually, the tub is gone now too.
The downstairs bathroom is as gutted as the upstairs. Exciting stuff, no? Except that I have out of town company this weekend. And we are having a pool party with 35 people on Saturday. The only remaining toilet is in our master bathroom. Great timing on my part, huh? Who doesn't want a bunch of kids in dripping wet bathing suits traipsing up the stairs through the master bedroom? I think I will make anyone under the age of 10 pee in a bucket in the backyard.

The road to 26.2 miles

I have officially started my marathon training. I really feel like I am starting from zero after taking 2 weeks off of running to deal with my hip. So far my pain is only minimal and I am continuing with physical therapy, so hopefully the pain will remain tolerable. When I said something to my orthopedic doctor about "being pain free", he laughed. He said there is no such thing as pain-free when training for a marathon! So tolerable pain is my new goal!
Here is my week in running:

Tues-4 miles
Thurs-3 miles
Friday- 5 miles
Sunday- 5.2 miles

Total-17.2 miles

The hardest thing for me this week has been holding back on my mileage. I was running 9 miles prior to taking my break, but am slowly building back up to minimize the chance of re-injuring myself. I will keep this log at the top of my blog and update weekly.

Happy Birthday Suzie!!

Today is Suzie's 38th birthday!! She is younger than me so it is OK for me to say what her age is. She is one of my oldest and dearest friends. We met when I was in college working at a mexican restaurant. I think the year was 1988, making our friendship 20 years old!! I was a waitress and she was the hostess. We actually did not like each other very much at first. It was probably my fault as I thought she gave her friend Beth better tables than me. I then decided I was transferring to UCI, which is where she went to college. In the process of pumping her for information, I discovered what an awesome person she is! She has been my closest friend since.

This is a picture of us when we were roommates living in San Francisco. I can't remember the year, 1993 or 1994?

Here are a few things about Suzie and what I have learned from her:

1. She is my "crafty" friend. She taught me how to cross stitch back in college. The cross stitch below she made for me. It is framed and hangs over my baby's crib. I think of her whenever I see it. She also sews, quilts, and knits. When she came to visit me in medical school I remember her sewing one of my pillows that had ripped.

2. She is an awesome cook. Whenever I have food/cooking related questions I call her (or my mom). If I don't have a certain spice, she can tell me what to use instead. How do I color fondant? She found me the info. I recently tried this recipe for mushroom pasta that I got from her and it is great!

3. She introduced me to coffee. We were in college together and I had never tried it. We were at a coffee kiosk on campus and I had 2 cups the first time. I was bouncing off the walls! And I was hooked.

4. She is a great and loyal friend. No matter where she moves she will have a group of great friends in no time at all. She is currently in Indiana, but this doesn't prevent us from talking or texting almost daily.

5. She is a dedicated and devout Catholic. Even when we were roommates in San Francisco she would go to mass every Sunday. That blew me away. Church was somewhere you went when you were a kid and your parents made you. Here she was in her 20's, no parent in sight, and she was attending mass. She is the Godmother to my oldest son, Zachary. She never told me that we should be going to mass, but was a constant and quiet example of a life lived in the Faith. I don't think she knows this, but she is one of the reasons we joined a parish and began attending mass regularly last year, which led to my decision to convert to Catholicism.

6. She introduced me to blogging! She started her blog last year. Prior to that I had never really read blogs before, but it still didn't occur to me to actually start one. Last November when I was telling her that my boys had decorated their gingerwood house for the holidays, she said "Why don't you start a blog? Then you can post the pictures of stuff like that!" Alas, my blog was born! I start out almost every day with flipping on the coffee maker, then sitting at the computer and checking her blog for updates while the coffee brews.

I hope you have a day as incredible as you are Suzie!! Happy Birthday!!

Kinder graduation

Joey had his kindergarten program today. It was adorable of course! I can not believe that 2 of my kids have now completed kindergarten. I am going to be a basket case when Christopher is done!

Joey saying his line perfectly.

This video may not interest anyone but my mom, but I think it is hysterical! Six year olds doing the chicken dance!

Way to go Joey!!

Jog in the pool?

I have mentioned my hip pain in a few posts. It started about 2 1/2 months ago out of nowhere. Initially I took a week off running, but the pain came right back when I started. I have tried ignoring it, taking lots of motrin, and something called push therapy (which hurts!) It has gotten to the point of limping after every run. I saw an sports ortho doc last week and he ordered an MRI to rule out a stress fracture (in my hip! I never knew that could happen!!)

Do you recognize all the parts? No? Me neither!
Thankfully it was negative, so it is just muscle pain. So a couple weeks off running, physical therapy and push therapy, and hopefully I will be good as new! I ran in the pool today and yesterday. Boring!!

New York, here we come!!

Yesterday Pete and I heard that we made the lottery for the New York City half marathon!! Woo hoo!! I am so excited! I have had my heart set on running both a half and full marathon this year. This was the half I really wanted to do. My Aunt Dede is flying us to New York and we will be running it with her (she made it in too). Now if only my painful groin/leg would get better. Ugh. More on that later.
