What?! I told you I wasn't quirky!
Em over at Life, Liberty and the Pursuit has tagged me for a meme. Em is one of my fellow "Raising All Boys" mom and has an awesome blog, so go check her out!
Anyway, she tagged me a week ago, but I have had a difficult time doing it. I am supposed to list 6 quirky things about myself, and I just can't think of anything. Shocking, I know, but I am drawing a blank. I am tempted to throw this out to those who know me personally and ask you to come up with 6 quirky things about me. I won't cop out quite so much though, and will do my best and come up with as many as I can. Those that have read my 100 list will recognize some of these.
1. I am ultra competitive. I suppose it was this competitiveness that helped me get through the cut throat mentality of medical school, but at times I go over board. Not only is it difficult for me to accept losing something, I even struggle with seeing my kids lose. Case in point-- Vincent is in soccer, in what is called the under 5 league. It is a tiny field, 4 on 4, very tiny goal, 10 minute scrimmages. No score is kept of course because "The score is always fun to fun! " Hogwash, but whatever. The rules clearly state the there is no goalie. Last week we were playing this team with a boy who kept blocking the entire goal, making it impossible for our team to score. I was livid! It was all I could do to not jump up at let the other coach have it! Pete had to practically medicate me to calm me down. The kids didn't care (or even notice as they were all running around in circles), but damn, I sure did.
2. I like the taste of children's amoxicillin. Remember the pink, sticky bubble gum tasting stuff? Yep, that stuff. I will lick the spoon after I have given the kids their dose. I have even been known to drink the rest of the bottle when there is leftovers. Yum. (Yes, I know. This was on my 100 list)
3. I eat potato chips in a quirky way (for the record, I don't think it is quirky, but my husband does and insists I list this) Anyway, when I am eating chips I will peer into the bag and pick out the chip that has the most seasoning on it (I eat BBQ baked Lay's). Every. Single. Chip. Why do I do this? I mean, I eventually eat the entire bag anyway, so why do I insist on eating them in order from most BBQ- ish to least BBQ- ish? I don't know, but I do.
4. I will not turn on the bathroom light in the middle of the night. ( the opposite of you Em!) I don't even like to open my eyes at night when I am going to the bathroom. I will open one at a time, or even keep them both closed and feel my way to the bathroom. I am afraid it will be too hard to fall back asleep if light gets in my eyes (And it is really easy to go back to sleep after I have tripped over my husbands shoes). I won't flush either.
Well, that is it. I know it is only 4 things, but I can not think of anything else. Suzie? Mom? Can you think of anything?
I am supposed to now tag 6 people, but I do not want to put anyone on the spot, so I won't. But I would love to see some of the folks from my blog roll list their quirks!

Here's a quirk I haven't written about yet (surprisingly).
Each day when I exercise and watch the amount of calories burned I imagine the calories in my body being burned first are those "empty calories."
Let's say I ate a bowl of fiber cereal, three handfuls of candy corn, a baked potato with cheese, diet pop and a protein bar that day before my workout.
As I watch the number of calories burned I imagine that the calories from the candy corn are burned off first. So the junk food I ate seven hours before the workout are burned off (in my mind) before the calories in the healthy food are burned off.
I know, it doesn't make sense but it relieves the guilt I feel from eating junk.
Great job!
Your "kind" is the reason I just got an e-mail from my son's soccer league telling the parents to watch their language. I'm so with you, though - "The score is always fun to fun" my a$$!
And if you can live with the knowledge that one day you might get bit on the bum by a snake, you go right on ahead and keep those eyes closed at night, missy. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Thanks for the props! Happy weekend.
Em
#5 You have a fond desire of stale Peeps which means that you often buy them and hide them in the trunk of your car so they get to the right texture.
#6 You clean the day before your cleaning people come. This is common but still quirky. :-)
I admit I fall in the middle between you and Em on the bathroom issue. I have a night light in our bathroom. Too much light, not good. Too dark, not good. A little light was just enough to see the giant spider I had to kill at the base of the toilet last night. Ew! (No kidding!) What's it going to take to get you to come over to the light side?
Okay I do 2 of your quirky things. I do the pototo chip thing. I also do not turn the bathroom light on at night. I don't know what it is. But I don't flush either. Weird I know.
Hey, I love your "quirks" - lol! I always love reading the other RAB moms blogs and yours is always entertaining!!
