It's that time again

Yep! It is back to school time! I have been in serious denial about this day. August 17th is way too early for school to start. Unfortunately, the school board did not consult with me, so August 17th it is.

My biggest goal this year is organization. With Vinnie starting kindergarten, I will have 3 in school. I need to be able to stay on top of all the schedules, parties, permission slips, etc. The following is my solution ( I hope!) When the kids come home, they empty papers into their corresponding slot. I will then go through them, sign what needs to be signed, etc... Let's hope it works!

Here are my handsome guys! Zachary is starting 5th grade-my big man on campus this year. Joey is in 2nd, and Vinnie is starting kinder.

Of course the new school year means new shoes! Mark my words, they will be full of holes by Christmas.

Zach with his good friend Kyle. Their 6th year at the school, and still not in the same class. Poor guys!

Joey with his good friend Dustin. It is their third year at the school and they are in the same class for the second time. Poor teacher!

My kinder man Vinnie! We were thrilled to hear he has the same awesome teacher that Joey had. This year the class is a kinder-first combo, which I think will be great for him. Also exciting, he has 2 kids from his preschool in his class. He marched in and stated chatting away like he owned the place. I will have to remember to bring Mrs. Jung some ear plugs!

He looked pretty happy at pick up!

Contini tradition dictates that we go out for ice cream after school. Unfortunately I couldn't take off work early today, so we planned to go for yogurt after dinner.

Then the kids fought.

And I burned the garlic bread.

And the kids bickered.

Three were sent to their rooms.

A bowl of watermelon was dropped on the (freshly mopped) kitchen floor.

And a light bulb was shattered by a baseball.

And a pitcher of water was spilled on the floor.

And the kids continued to annoy each other.

Pete and I had had it. A family meeting was called. After some serious discussion about behavior (and threats of no yogurt) Pete and I then witnessed our children work together to clean up their messes. It was a beautiful thing (and one I may never see again).

The trip out to yogurt was saved! (Thank goodness because I was looking forward to it all day!)

Okay, I was feeling like a totally disorganized loser when I read all about school, how it started super early, your incredible organizing area, etc.

And then you brought me back to reality. Good luck on getting into the new routine.

We still have two weeks to go but part of me is nervous about having to work with a schedule again and homework and teacher meetings and field trips, etc.

Viva la yogurt!

The good part looked and sounded so good. The bad part read like a children's book. The ending made me realize once again that you and Peter are such good parenting role models. The post did remind me a little of the Berenstain bears. :-)

Haha! You're such a role model Mom. I'm obsessed with the whole folder system thing. I hope it works out!

This post made me somewhat teary - such gorgeous little men. My oldest starts Monday, Youngest starts preschool in another week.

Such an exciting time in their lives. A little bittersweet for Mama.

And you go with your mad organization skilz!!

Dude. I'm going to have to enact something like that when my 3 are in school. You're seriously brilliant.

Hi! I just found your blog via a link on the blog Piece Of Cake. I am in the same exact boat as you with my baby going off to Kindergarten and I also have a 2nd grader and a 5th grader. I also decided that we outgrew the fridge as far as a paper organizer, and just bought sheet metal that I'm making into our organizational area. Your area looks great! I hope it works out well for you. Your boys are adorable!

I look forward to reading your blog, but I had to introduce myself especially after seeing this post which reminded me of my life. lol
