Introducing Bochy!

Allow me to introduce you to Bochy!!  He is named after Bruce Bochy, the manager of the Giants.

He does have eyes, but they were closed in every picture!

After the heart breaking loss of Buster we did not know what to do.  We have all been grieving, especially Pablo, our other cat.  He was hardly eating and just lying around, listless.  It was suggested we get another cat right away.  So off we went to the shelter.

Bochy was especially tolerant of the non stop manhandling by the above child, so we chose him.  He is a domestic short hair, approximately 4 months old.  We also looked at another cat who was 11 months old, and also very sweet, but we felt that Bochy would adjust better to our house as an even younger cat.

"Hiss!!"
I thought Pablo would do great.  After all, he has never been an only cat before.  Boy, was I wrong.  Pablo let us know loud and clear he was not interested in a new kitty.  Loudly growling and hissing whenever Bochy was in sight.  I felt terrible.  What had we done?? Poor Pablo was still grieving Buster and now we have thrust this new bouncy creature on him.

Would you get this annoying kitten away from me?
Then later that night we noticed Bochy had a goopy eye and a runny nose.  Luckily the vet was open on Christmas Eve, so off we went.  He has a respiratory infection and is on antibiotics and eye drops.  Really??  I have to put eye drops in a cat??  Frankly I have hard enough time remembering to give my kids their medicine when they are on it, let alone a cat.

Hmmm.  Maybe this little guy isn't so bad
It has now been 4 days and they are working it out.  I would say that Pablo is now tolerating Bochy.  We feel comfortable leaving them alone in the house together.  They don't play together (yet ), and Pablo keeps his eye on Bochy if he is still in the same room, but the hissing has almost completely stopped. He is even walking up to Bochy and sniffing at him.  Pablo is definitely perkier and eating better too.   I am now hopeful that they will get along fine, and may even be friends.

Bochy is a sweet cat and is fitting in well with our household which means the general noise level and constant handling by the boys doesn't seem to phase him one bit.  The little guy is really starting to grow on me.  I admit I was afraid I would just find myself comparing him to Buster and would find him lacking.  I still miss my Buster terribly, but I think this guy will do just fine in the Contini house.

Welcome Bochy!

Glad you have a new kitty! (And I find comfort knowing I'm not the only one who has a hard time remembering to dispense meds to my kids. I swear my husband is going to call CPS on me for neglect. I forget all the time.)
